ELITE ATHLETE PROGRAMME

Our Elite Athlete programme has been designed for students performing regionally, nationally and internationally whilst also studying at Burnley College. It gives athletes the opportunity to combine their sports training with academic study.

As an elite athlete studying at one of the UK’s top sporting Colleges, you will benefit from a package of excellent coaching, expert strength and conditioning, physiotherapy, nutritional advice and have access to our state-of-the-art gym facility, whilst training alongside professional athletes.

In addition to our vocational courses, elite athletes can now also progress on to a range of degree programmes we offer at the campus.

Elite Athlete Charlotte’s dream of representing GB in the hammer at the Olympic Games looks to be well within her reach. An Advanced Level Sport and Physical Activity student at Burnley College Sixth Form Centre, she already competes for Blackburn Harriers and Birchfield Harriers and has competed at international level.

Elite Athlete Zoe plans to study physiotherapy at university before starting a successful career in the Sports Industry. An Advanced Level Sport and Exercise Science student at Burnley College Sixth Form Centre, she excels in the javelin, as well as playing hockey, netball and badminton, representing Pendle AC and Pendle Forest Hockey.

Elite Athlete Nick Hennessey is already representing Lancashire in competitive running events and is working hard to maintain his county credentials. The Intermediate Level Business student at Burnley College Sixth Form Centre, already runs for Clayton-le-Moors Harriers.

Elite Athlete Mae Anderson plans to train as a PE teacher after attending university. An Advanced Level Sport and Exercise Science student at Burnley College Sixth Form Centre, Mae has already represented her county and region in national swimming contests and is a qualified lifeguard.

Elite Athlete Lucy Daye is en-route to representing England in international hockey competitions, having already played for local, county and North of England teams. An Advanced Level Sport and Exercise Science student at Burnley College Sixth Form Centre, Lucy plans to study Sports Psychology at university.

Elite Athlete Zak Smith-Shelley has his sights set on representing GB in the pool in the Olympics. A Foundation Level Sport and Exercise Science student at Burnley College Sixth Form Centre, he trains in the pool up to 20 hours a week alongside his strength and conditioning coaching and studies. He currently represents Burnley Bobcats in regional and national competitions.
